Second Empire. Gilt brass hilt, with remnants of fire gilt in protected areas. High relief decoration, crisply detailed. The guard with rooster (cock) on globe over flag splay and foliage. The pommel with a beehive each side. The bee was the Bonaparte family symbol, relating here to Napoleon III (Napoleon’s nephew).  Fine mother of pearl grips (small edge chip).  30 ¾” spadroon blade, broad fullered single-edged first half and double edged to the point. The fullers with faint foliage sprigs. Excellent quality with fine deep relief modeling to the hilt and great age character.
