Brass D guard hilt with leather covered grip and 24 ¼” wedge section blade. Grenadiers, by this time, were elite troops of superior size and skill who led with hand to hand combat, as with breeching a fortification. The relatively short blade is a reflection of the close circumstances in which this sword was used.
