Silvered bronze axe, just over 1 7/8” (1.88”) height, of iconic Viking battle axe form with circular socket flared front and back for stability on the haft. Back swept bearded bit, pierced with a single hole surrounded by circle and dot motifs and back similar decorated. These votive axes are found in the Baltic hinterlands and were used sacrificially, probably at funerals of warriors. This example has been professionally refurbished with the pure silver surface restored. It is suspended from a Sterling silver 5.1mm neck chain for modern wear. It is jewelry gift boxed with a certificate of authenticity.
