Showing a strong Frankish influence from which it evolved, 6 3/4" in length with a long "whittle" tang made to embed in a wood or antler grip. The blade base formed as rounded shoulders that seated into the grip, distinguishing these from later knives which mounted guards on squared shoulders. Wedge section blade of fully developed form with slightly concave dropped or clipped point. The blade of relatively a single-purpose weapon. Excellent excavated and conserved condition with areas of original surface on both sides.
