Fine Turkana Headrest

Antique, ex: Christies London. Elegantly carved wood with splaying spatulate supports and rectangular, rest, all carved of one piece. A wire-wrapped leather tension member to keep the rest in compression when bearing its load. The principle is identical to the tensioning rods used in architecture. The Turkana live in Kenya and are natural ADversaries of the Maasai. Both are dependent on their cattle herds and both engage in cattle theft.
