The hilt with heavy silver overlay and ebony grip with inlaid silver cross. 28” double edged blade with foliate, standing knight, crusades scene, Memento Mori, and owner’s name on gold ground. The gold complete and bright. The ricasso marked THE M C LILLEY & CO COLUMBUS OHIO. That form used 1882-1925. Black scabbard with fine silver mounts. These appear to be solid silver with no evidence of plating. The chased relief work of a quality and depth no longer practiced or available. Excellent example of a late 19th, early 20th century secret society sword.
