FINE BYZANTINE WOMAN’S PENDANT, 6TH-8TH CENTURY

$155.00

Christian conversion period. Slightly under 1” diameter, disk form with eight pierced circles surrounding a central nub, a reference to the Roman Rota Fortuna (Wheel of Fortune). That was the symbol for Fortuna and embodied the concept that fortune and therefore life, was capricious. Of the many Pagan beliefs which survived and were blended with Christianity, the Wheel of Fortune is probably the most prominent and survives today as the “good luck charm”.   Silvered bronze, professionally refurbished with the silver overlay restored on a Sterling silver neck chain for modern wear. Gift boxed with Certificate of Authenticity.

Item ID: A6877
