Extremely Rare Frankish Prick Spur C.300-500 AD


Iron, 4 1/2" length, of delicate form, having evolved from the Roman form which a small spike plate secured with a leather harness. Straight rounded face sides with needle eye terminals decorated on the outside with a series of nubs. The small elongated conical prick made separately with a stem through the frame and peened on the back. Excavated with about half original surface to the frame, and surface rust growth to the balance. We've found no pictured actual examples in literature.
