EXCEEDINGLY RARE EUROPEAN ARMOR TONLET C.1520

$6,300.00
The articulated skirt for foot tournaments. Comprising half the skirt and of ten plates articulated with sliding rivets. Each plate with a key pin to engage the corresponding plate of the matching half. The top plate with key slots for attachment to the breastplate. The bottom plate of broad flared form with rolled and roped edge. So rare that the form is represented in literature by the same few examples including the most famous, that of Henry VIII made in 1516. We have never in 50 years seen a single example for sale or in private hands. Extraordinary untouched condition with every original rivet and pin intact as well as the buff leather center strap. Very possibly made for an English (undoubtedly noble) owner as it came from the 1952 sale of the contents of Hengrave Hall, Bury St. Edmonds, Suffolk England (Knight, Frank & Rutley in conjunction with Rutter, Sons & Co., Sept. 24, 1952). Literally a once in a lifetime opportunity for the serious collector.
