EXCEEDINGLY RARE 14th CENTURY EUROPEAN DAGGER

$2,875.00

Bronze hilt with trefoil pommel, a reference to the cross. Tapered octagonal section grip, with transverse ring to the base and pommel bottom. 7 7/8" blade of  thick triangular section, tapered through its length. The base over 1/2" (0.51") thick forming a stiletto like thrusting weapon capable of penetrating the thick padded jackets and brigandines which sometimes concealed iron plates. See European Cut and Thrust Weapons, Muller/Kolling/Platow #55 for a closely related example formerly in the Gay Collection, Paris. Expected wear and minor losses. Survival rate for early daggers is very low as they uniformly were reused as utility knives and consumed by repeated sharpening. This example survives in remarkable condition.
