Forged iron, 13 ¾” length with hooked bit on lapped seam conical socket. The back struck with an armorer’s mark. See European Cut and Thrust Weapons, #266 for a similar example. Arsenal condition with stable chocolate brown rusting. Sometimes called peasant’s weapons, European town arsenals were stocked with weapons such as these to arm the populace in the event of attack which occurred from time to time in Northern Europe.
