The basic pattern used through the French and Indian Wars and the Revolution. See Swords and Blades of the American Revolution, Neumann, #7.PA for a virtually identical example in matching condition. As well, these are illustrated in every significant book on the Revolution. 28” length with the haft broken short in antiquity. Made in three pieces with the sheet iron blade passing through the tapered socket and secured by the threaded tang of the spear point. The underside of the spear point is cut with four notches for identification, probably to match to the blade, as these were disassembled for transport. 1960’s Connecticut find in “corn crib” condition at the time. Surface varying from light rust on smooth finish to scattered pitting.
