ENGLISH RAPIER C.1640

$5,300.00

Made without a knuckle bow, this rapier represents a scarce but well documented variation for the period. The pierced and embossed shell guards are decorated with portrait heads of Charles I (1625-49) as was the fashion. The 34 1/4" hollow triangular blade represents an early use of the form. This example is distinguished by retaining nearly all of its original finish to the hilt. Provenance: Henry Ford Museum, Dearborn, Michigan.
