EASTERN FINNISH ARROWHEAD

$165.00

Its likely that of the aggregate of weapons produced throughout history, arrows outnumber all others combined. Four decades ago when we started our collection of European and Eastern arrowheads, little information was available. The earliest came from Crusades battle sites and defied classification. Since that time, very specific information has evolved which allows us to accurately date and attribute early arrowheads. The following are all excavated and in stable condition. All references are to Arms and Armour of the Crusading Era, 1050-1350 by David Nicolle. 9th century. Finely forged of broad veined hollow triangular section with flat sharpened edge point. About 2 3/4" overall. Eastern Finnish and showing distinct Turco-Mongol influence. Finland was tribal at the time and mixed with Eastern and Southeastern peoples. See Nicolle fig. 173i and discussion on p.89. Tang bent.
