Crusades Supply Seals, 11th-12th Century

$90.00

Used to identify and seal the drawstrings of small packets which contained valuable supplies such as arrowheads, salt, and spices, as well as money. Four examples, each lead, Over 3/4" greatest dimension. Each with the seal of its owner. Three with string holes, the fourth evidently attached differently. Only nobles and royalty had seals so these specifically identify the property of Crusading knights. The routes to the Holy Land were populated with vendors selling most of the staples needed so coinage for payment would have been a significant part of small bag cargo. Four seals as shown.
