CRUSADER’S CROSSBOW BOLT, 12TH CENTURY AD

$165.00

Forged iron, 3 5/8” (3.61”) length with pyramidal point on tapered tang. Much lighter than the later armor piercing bolts. Excellent excavated condition. Crossbows were used successfully against Muslim forces, such as at the Siege of Jerusalem (1099), during Richard the Lionheart's campaigns in the Third Crusade. Richard was a notable proponent and was ironically killed by a crossbow bolt in 1199.
