Battlefield find. First Manassas (Bull Run) area. Forged iron handle and blade with flared base waisted junction. 6 3/8" length, comprising the full handle and about 2/3 of the blade. Almost certainly repointed for use as a belt knife as weapons were very scarce at that point in the war. All iron construction indicates production on a plantation with a blacksmith's shop but absent the more sophisticated facilities to produce and install bone or antler grip scales.
