Forged iron head with round poll (socket) deformed to flatten the peen and so mounted with an original haft shaped to the modification.  Well used throughout. The haft with old cracks and splinters. See Swords and Blades of the American Revolution, 2.A for a similar example dated 1680-1750 with the poll similarly deformed which Neumann states was “often hammered to help secure the handle”.  12 ½” length with 4 5/8” head. Distinctly belt axe size rather that the more common larger camp axes
