Companion to A9255. Pattern identified as M.1840, and usually attributed to militias including those which served the Confederacy. 25 1/4” double-edged blade of fighting weight, unmarked.  Brass hilt with stars and bars langets and reeded bone grip. An identical example retailed by Baker & McKenney NY is in the National Museum of American History and can be viewed at https://americanhistory.si.edu/collections/search/object/nmah_440154.  That example bears stamped initials (?) to the quillon block. This example bears similar stamps to both quillons, one side clearly relating these two and our A9255 above.  Minor chips to the bone grip.
