Pattern identified as M.1840, and usually attributed to militias including those which served the Confederacy. 26” double-edged blade marked Baker & McKenney NY at the forte and decorated with foliage, flags and trophies of arms. Brass hilt with stars and bars langets and reeded bone grip. An identical example by the same retailer is in the National Museum of American History and can be viewed at https://americanhistory.si.edu/collections/search/object/nmah_440154. Minor chips to the bone grip. The decoration and blade inscription somewhat faint as applied but complete and clear.
