CIVIL WAR MUSICIAN’S SWORD

$510.00

One of just 3000 made! 1840 pattern. See The American Sword, Peterson #44. Made by EMERSON & SILVER TRENTON NJ and so marked (crisply struck) on the ricasso. Reverse with US D F M 1863 (inspected by Dexter F Mossman). This maker produced a single contract of 3000 pieces of this pattern. The blade gray with very minor frosty surface. Hilt with good color and expected minor nicks/bruises. Musicians marched at the head of the attack and were recognized as a stabilizing and stimulating force. They were attacked to silence them. Union musicians were equipped with the 1840 pattern sword and no other weapon. Very good example from the famed American Sword Collection of Frank Barnyak.
