19th century. 19" length. Wood haft with scorch darkened terminals. The socket with the nicely branded decoration of opposing hemispheres. Forged iron blade stipple decorated in tree motif. Dark aging throughout. The Chokwe were only minimally involved in the slave trade for the export market, but actively captured women from neighboring groups to serve as their own slaves and concubines.
