La Tene Period. 14 ¾” length with medially ridged point and tapered forged seam socket. Fine form with a good profile. Professionally conserved. The La Tene culture flourished in northern Europe to the West to the North Sea and Atlantic, east to Slovenia and Hungary and south to the north of Italy. The culture is identified by finds in La Tene, in the Swiss canton of Neuchatel, west of Bern and close to the French border. See accompanying image for comparable examples. The Celts were great warriors and in 390 BC, defeated the Romans and sacked Rome.
