17th-18th century, of classic form which evolved into the navaja. 4 1/2” length with straight edge, raised back wedge section blade. Original suspension ring. Pierced for its axle. Well preserved for the period. As sailors were universally prohibited and prevented from owing pointed knives, the pirate attribution may be applied with confidence. Purchased from a Fort Myers Florida dive and salvage shop in the 1980s.
