Brass hilt of heavy fighting form with raised thickened edge oval folding shell guards, straight cross guard and faceted knuckle bow. Vase shaped pommel with large button. Silver wire wrapped ray skin grip, excellent. 32" straight broad fullered blade, crisp with near all plating remaining.  Dating to the period of political turmoil which led to the German Empire of 1848, which Austria refused to join and subsequently, the Austro-Prussian War of 1866. Including an associated iron scabbard.
