ANTIQUE DESKTOP CANNON

$85.00

Naval as used on shipboard and shore batteries. 3 7/8” length with ringed brass barrel, partially bored. Wood carriage. Charming. Naval ships of the period (18th century) were not designed for specific armament but were outfitted as the mission demanded. Groups of cannons in various sizes were routinely put on and exchanged. They served as well in shore batteries defending against enemy ships. Complete with fine patina. Cannons such as this were used by retired military men as paperweights and reminders of their service. They were also used in adult mock war games as seen in several British films, most notably by Lionel Jeffries.
