ANGLO SAXON SPEAR POINT, 6TH CENTURY AD

$445.00

Forged iron, just over 6” length. Tapered diamond section point with opposing raised rounded base fins. Made to penetrate the thick leather and bombast armor of the period. Opened seam conical socket with a remnant portion of a separately forged on reinforcing band to the bottom which speaks to the quality of this example. The rounded base of the fins allowed for rapid dislodging of the spear from its victim. Specifically English with similar examples found at Shepperton, Middlesex, Harnham, Wiltshire, and Linton Heath, Cambridgeshire where it likely survived to fight the Norse invaders.
