2 ¼” height. forged iron with four arrow point members which, when scattered, land with one point facing up to impale horse or man in battle. They are described in the late 4th century by Vegetius, who states that they were strewn across the battlefield and were completely effective in stopping enemy war chariots by disabling one or more horses immobilizing the chariot in mid field. This example excavated with some damage from having been trod on.
