Ancient Roman Brooch (Garment Pin) Fibula


Second through 4th century AD. The original Garment pin was patented two millennia later as the "safety pin". High arched frame with double roped borders flanking a deep central groove. Fastened at the shoulder and serving as jewelry as well as a Garment fastener. Bronze, about 1 7/8" length, of elegant form, with double ridged back. Crisp with fine patina.
