One of the many variants in this group. See Peterson #115. Bronze hilt with “bow tie” form guard and shield form langets, both stipple finished. Reeded bone grip, helmet form pommel and 27” straight d.e. blade. Plated scabbard appears never to have had a tip mount. Well preserved for the period with no damage. Note, the use of plating was well established by that time and found on many hand guns of the period. Its lack of use by the government can be misleading. These elegant militia swords are among the most underrated swords in the market. They combine quality with historic context and a cruciform derived from the medieval form.
