AMERICAN CANDLE MOLD, 18TH-EARLY 19TH CENTURY

$115.00
Tinned iron mold for six candles, 10 5/8” height. Tapered tubes with separate wick ends and dished top with tapered band handle. These were used from the Pilgrim period into the 19th century when they were largely replaced by oil lamps and later, kerosene. Owing to their complex and somewhat fragile construction, most surviving example have been damaged after they fell into disuse. This example survives as it was made with superficial surface aging only.
