A NORTH ITALIAN CABASSET C.1570-80.

$7,300.00

This helmet was made in Milan, northern Italy and is identified by its decoration, which is sometimes described as Pisan style. It was part of a half armor decorated overall in matching motifs including bands of weapons, armor elements, musical instruments, and oval panels depicting classical Roman warriors. Such armors were worn by private militias or armies of nobles and displayed power through affluence and dedication to art. In the fourth quarter of the 16th century, territorial infighting was constant. Peace or war was the result of alliances, often based on marriages between noble families. Those military units were the instruments of those wars and keepers of the peace. Height: 8".
