19TH CENTURY CHEROOT CANE

$950.00

37 3/8” overall, a black japanned cane with horn tip. The handle is a cast bronze cannon with about 0.28” bore and touch hole at the breech. It could be loaded with powder and ball and fired by applying the lit cigar to the touch hole. Popular in the 19th century (especially among Mississippi riverboat gamblers, travelers, or for celebrations/signaling). Used in close quarters, it was effective as a weapon similar to a derringer. It also could provide a distraction as needed. Expected condition for the period with light green oxidation to the bore and touch hole.
