18th CENTURY OTTOMAN LONG DAGGER

$485.00

15 5/8” length with 10 1/4” broad fullered s.e. blade with long false edge. Contoured horn grip with foliage decorated silver base mount and scroll terminal quatre-lobed silver pommel mount. The mount clearly an adaptation of the prevailing and earlier representations of the cross and probably meant to be antagonistic. There was considerable crossover of Christian/Muslim symbols including “Moor’s heads” on European swords. Antagonistic symbolism includes the cross inverted used by Mahdists. Showing aging and use but undamaged and complete.
