55" length for hand to hand fighting with the shield. Finely turned wood haft, tapered toward the butt (old smoothed over splinter), with repeated baluster motif to the medial and another, larger below the iron ferrule. Finely forged head with thick tapered medial flanked by broad fullers. The bottom with indented barbs. Surface shows forged lamination, probably pattern welded construction, and dark patina with frosty light texture. Superior quality early example.
