Iron. 2 3/4" high with arched, rectangular section shackle. The body made of sheet iron fabricated with rivet joints. The front with a spring loaded rectangular locking cover over the key hole. Back with a matching separate reinforcing panel. No key, preserved in the opened position. Surface rust and light pitting overall. In Colonial America these early padlocks were known as smoke house locks.
