Edo period. Iron, 18 5/8" total length. Curved diamond section blade with curved base hook. Tang pierced with a single mounting hole. The current view is that these were parrying weapons capable of catching and breaking an opponent’s blade. As well, they were used to foul the lacing and penetrate between the plates of the opponent's armor, evidently from which they acquired the name, Kabutowari. Tang rusted. The blade with nearly all original polish.
