Meiji period, 1867-1912. 5” diameter, with red/orange body color. Each of the cusped medial profiles. The top decorated with a black lacquered flower and tendril, the details executed by cutting through the black lacquer into the body color beneath. That technique was popular in China. True lacquer (not paint) took weeks of drying for each coat and months to produce this bowl. Fine preservation.
