ROMAN IRON ARROWHEAD, C.100BC-200AD

$140.00

Roman armies relied on cohorts of archers, often mercenaries recruited locally, for support. As in Medieval times, battles were preceded by a hail of arrows to injure as many as possible and disrupt the ranks and order of command. This example is iron, just over 3 3/4 (3.81”) total length with elongated pyramidal form point on integral conical bolster. It is designed to pierce thick leather and mail armor. It was used on the battlefield as well as at siege, which was a favorite Roman tactic.
