RARE GOTHIC SWORD BELT HOOK, 15th CENTURY

Forged iron, 3” length. Triangular loop, (lamination flaw and seam). Elegant tapered hook with baluster terminal. The back thickened with w step to engage the scabbard suspension ring.  See Metropolitan Museum 2010.180.2, online and displayed in Gallery 307, for a near identical example identified as French, 15th century. The quality suggests the accessory served a knight, probably noble, suspending a sword such as our A5986.
