RARE CELTIC IRON SPUR, C.300-0 BC

$340.00
Just over 2 3/4‰۝ width, finely forged and detailed with large rounded face button terminals and faceted frame and heel plate. Ribbed simulating binding flanking the spike. Excavated with localized corrosion to the checkered button faces and a few spots on the heel plate. The balance with near all original surface and crisp detail. See Der Sporn, Zschille-Forrer, #1-4, which significantly, presents these as the earliest of all spurs. In high antiquity, spurs were not used in pairs, but rather as a single accessory attached to only one of the feet, usually on the left. See Metropolitan Museum of Art, #42.50.270 (online) for a related example.
