Rare and Important German Silver Mounted Trophy of the Nuremberg Singing Club

$1,350.00

Hallmarked silver mounted natural horn, 25" length along the curve. Broad rolled edge silver mouth and a double line bordered band below. The latter with Nuremberg hallmarks. The center engraved "Dem SINGVEREIN NÃ1/4rnberg gemidmet von J.V. Korper. 1869", each word has its own line with mixed fonts. Translates to "The Singing Club of Nuremberg dedicated of J.V. Korper. 1869." The Singing Club of Nuremberg was undoubtedly the descendant of the Nuremberg Meistersingers made famous by Wagner's opera which was first performed on June 21, 1868. Evidently, information on the winner is yet to be published on the internet but surely, in time, supplemental information will emerge. Whether the contest itself was a periodic event or related to the Wagner opera also remains unknown.
