The period of the fall of Rome to the Barbarians to which this buckle belonged. See the 9th image at Forum Ancient Coins for another example lacking its tongue or keeper. This example is bronze, about 1 1/8”” (1.10”) height of characteristic swelled form with thick hooked tongue. It is intricately decorated in a deep relief foliate tendril flanked by dots. Crisp preservation with fine uniform glossy green patina.
