Finely forged of one piece with flared edge base shaped to embrace the natural spur of the animal with integral curved tapered spur. Small secondary spur to the top. 3 ½” greatest dimension as shown. Original stitched leather leg band which was wrapped around the leg and tied. England. Cockfighting was popular in England throughout the Medieval period until outlawed in 1849. The quality of workmanship in this example, entirely hand made, suggests 17th century dating.
