Iron bladesmith's stamp C.1860 for William Makin & SONS SHEFFIELD. That maker evidently unrecorded but for a flood overrunning the factory in 1864 and a few surviving knives bearing the name. 3 1/2" length, waisted form with mushroomed peen and the name in reverse comprising the leading edge. The stamp maker's name, "M. Godley 57 & 58 Byre St Sheffield" on the side. Excellent used condition.
