Mahdist period C.1885. 9 1/2" hammer finished leaf-shaped blade with offset edge and flat medial impressed with adorned crescents each side. The hilt in two stages with expanding faceted pommel encased in leather, leather wound middle and flared forged iron base decorated in large chevron patterns. Sound and complete. The blade with spotty smooth dark patina.
