RARE PAIR OF MOROCCAN/ALGERIAN DAGGERS

Known as khodmi, these were made in southern Algeria and Morocco. Said to derive their form from the Corsican vendetta daggers of the 18^th and 19^th century, they are skillfully made by different makers and at different times. Quite likely an heirloom with a then-contemporary mate. Dating to the French conflicts, late 19^th-early 20^th centuries. 6 ¼” and 5 3/8” blades, each with the slightly hooked tip. Each decorated with stamps and with figural backs. Each with integral bolster and wire wrap to the base of the well-carved grip. One with old solder stabilizing wire breaks. Original brown and black leather covered scabbards linked with a leather band from which is suspended sharpening steel, stone hone, and a leather pendant to bring complete the lucky number “3”. Wonderful age character and only such conjoined set we have encountered.
