Spanish colonial period, mid 19th century, or earlier. The 9 7/8" blade of typical form with flat back, providing a superb slashing and thrusting weapon. Wood hilt and two piece scabbard secured with twisted plant fiber. The hilt and scabbard front of elegant early form with distinct Spanish influence, incised in scroll, stipple and linear bands as found on early Spanish furniture. Color and character matching as well. Plain scabbard back with the tip of the "boot" lacking. Wonderful character. Probably the earliest and easily the best of these we have offered.
