GOTHIC SIDE KNIFE, 15TH CENTURY

$375.00

15th century. Called “hauswehr” or house knives, they were the weapons of peasants ranging from dagger to short sword length. They figured prominently in the Peasants Revolt of 1525. This example is 7 3/4” length with wedge section thrusting and slashing blade and forged tang for scale grips (bone, wood or antler) now perished. That it is a weapon and not a utility knife is shown by the fact that these do not demonstrate the repeated sharpening which is typical for working knives. Excellent excavated condition.
