GOTHIC EUROPEAN SIDE KNIFE C.1400

$445.00

11” length with 7 ½” slightly curved wedge section blade. The right side struck with two crescent form maker’s marks. Forged tang shaped for scale grips and retaining one securing rivet. Excellent excavated condition with considerable original surface. The 14th century saw the transition from whittle tang hilts to broad tangs with scale grips. The marks, usually on the left side, are among the most common forms, probably owing to the ease of making the tool with which they were applied. A classic example in superior preservation.
